I LIKE THIS A LOT

I follow a bunch of sports pages on my personal media pages. As a big college sports fan I follow Pro Football Focus who are responsible for a lot of the statistics that i use during the season. I recently looked at their website and noticed how I would like to tailor my website to something similar. Although it'll be on a smaller scale, I find the format of the website very appealing for the purposes of the website. The header on the webpage includes the three different sections: Pro, College, and Fantasy. In line of my personal website I could do something similar to that as I would be listing the top 5 players in professional football, professional basketball, and collegiate football. Unlike many other sports websites where their is a boatload of information. Pro Football Focus does a really nice job of categorizing information. 

Another subtle thing I like about the website is that it uses lists and numbers to headline the categorizes. Personally I love to look at articles that are used to list the best players or short bits of information. The people who are most in love with sports want debatable information that subsequently will bring more viewers and clicks. 

Layout Pages

The first website that I liked the layout to was Movado.com. I liked this page because the name of the website was centered at the page. That always get my attention if the title or brand is bold and in the center. I also like how they organize the categorizes for watches.

The second website that I like the format of was the iconic Jordan brand website. Although Jordan is really popular, I feel that people don't buy Jordan apparel on the website that much. What I do like about the website is how they have their top product as their main screen. I think some websites shy away from that or have it below the "fold" so that they aren't forcing the product to the consumers. I also like how they decided to use the blue background for the shoes.

The third website I take a liking to is the Rolex.com website. The main reason I like this layout is because it doesn't provide too many options for the viewers. Although it allows for the viewer to click on what I view as the main product; it's very limited. I like how they try to have the visitor interact with the website by clicking the menu option as a way to shop around.

A website design layout that I really liked was the Lamborghini website. The reason I liked this website was because of the interaction it provides. You aren't able to see the video because of the snapshot but it was really cool. When you open the website it has a slideshow that includes the car driving on the open road. I thought this was an interesting way to show off their product.

The last website is Diesel.com. I thought this website was a tad bit different because it provides prices for the jeans above the fold. Many clothing and apparel websites have the website visitor click a couple links before they are able to see the price of a product. This is extremely important due to the fact that younger audiences do not have the attention span that older audiences do. This can also be a tactic to enhance younger audiences which can be a really good tool for certain brands.

FONTS

I came across a website that had an interesting font not only within its website but its logo BrassandChrome.com is a hardware store located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When i seen their website i found that their logo font was really interesting because it was in cursive. I would think that a company names brass and chrome would have a more block style type font. I would assume that  most businesses try to align their font and logo according to the services they provide of possible.

A strength of this font on this webpage is that it's very creative and unique. Once i read that one of their selling points for their business is that they consider themselves professional the font made more sense to me. I happened to find a link between having the font in a way that makes it seem like a signature. It also shows the elegance that can be done in that line of work.

A weakness of the font is the difficulty the reader may have in reading the logo. Although font is important, the most important part of any website that provides a service is to allow the reader to read your logo and not wonder who you are. To make this website more effective, the business could have the logo in plain font and having the headers and categories as the cursive font. It could've had the same effect on the page.

I see this as inspiration because I am a christian and i find hope in this book. This bible is the foundation for all my inspiration. I can use it as a background for a website that has to do about Christianity.

I see this image of martin Luther King Jr. as an inspiration because I find this man to be one of the most courageous men in american history. I believe anyone can take qualities from MLK Jr. and become a better person. I would also use this as a background to a website about social justice.

The image of the Sistine chapel is inspirational to me because i really appreciate the arts. I always wanted to go to Europe to see the arts. I wouldn't use this as a background but i would have it under a photo section if it was a website about art.

The image of this baseball is inspirational to me because i used to play baseball. This baseball is vintage looking and torn apart which reminds me of how much effort is needed to be good in that sport. Usually it takes a long time to perfect or be good at baseball and i think that's what this baseball reminds me of. I would use this as a background picture.

This image of the sky is very interesting. I find the sky to be very relaxing and a therapeutic. I would use this as a cover photo for a story within the website or maybe even the background.

This image isnt really interesting but it is inspirational. My dream is to get a job at sportscenter when i get older. Just the thought of working for ESPN is exciting. I would use this as part of a slide within a website where im talking about things i want to do.

That's One Way To Do It

The class discussion about list was definitely fascinating, That got me to think about what webpages use features like lists most effectively. As the avid sports fan that i am, i instantly thought of ESPN. I went on their website and i immediately noticed that they use it correctly. But first, I will show you how to properly list things on a blog like mines. For example,

On a more serious note, I decided to look on a article about five transactions the AFC South should make during the off-season. As i started to read through the article i noticed how they used the list to headline the moves each team should make. Also, i did notice how the first headline on the list was pushed to the right because of the logo of each team. Although it was a minor change i believe that it made the design a lot more interesting. 

   

Its Harvard For A Reason

I happened to look at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and discovered how great the design was. It was linked to me from web designers depot.com. On the website it was labeled to be apart of seven unique design decisions. The first thing i noticed when i opened the page was how clean the page was. I generally expect there to be a lot of clutter on a school web page. More than that, i noticed how there is a visual display to navigate through. This obviously works great because it is a school for design but it could cover up so many other issues. By putting images to go through instead of columns or list, the viewer would be able to feel more engaged. The distinct beauty of the images grab your attention as soon as you enter the web page. I also believe that they did a good job of mixing up the format as someone scrolls down the page. They begin to center more pictures and videos as the viewer scroll down. I believe this could be a great tool to use for a website that incorporates a lot of videos. The softness of many of the pictures and background really works well for this website as well. It seems as though everything blends right in together.
